Dr. Patricia Evans, PhD, LP, CBSM, DBSM
About me
I am a licensed psychologist who specializes in treating insomnia and other sleep problems. I utilize evidence-based, cognitive-behavioral strategies (CBT-i) that are non-pharmacological, safe and highly effective in treating sleep issues.
Sleeping well can be a challenge, especially in this time of the pandemic, isolation, and uncertainty. Adequate sleep is essential for physical and emotional health and wellbeing. Poor sleep can easily become intertwined with anxiety. You may have been prescribed sleeping pills and are still not sleeping well. These are issues we can address as well.
I begin sleep therapy with an assessment of sleep concerns and any related issues. We would then develop an individualized sleep plan designed specifically for you. Therapy is primarily CBT, but we may also use relaxation and mindfulness strategies and acceptance and commitment therapy.
I can also evaluate and help determine if there may be a need for an overnight sleep study. Additionally, I can assist in helping you taper off sleep medications under the guidance of your physician if needed.
Training & experience
I have a doctoral degree in Psychology from the University of Minnesota. I completed my internship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and completed a senior post-doctoral fellowship in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington in Seattle. I am highly trained and experienced in cognitive-behavioral therapy and have extensive experience working clients of all ages-- children, teens and adults. I have spent much of my career working in medical settings.
I began working in the area of sleep disorders ten years ago and became board certified in Behavioral Sleep Medicine at that time. Several years ago, after additional training and experience, I became a Diplomate in Behavioral Sleep Medicine. I find my expertise in working with anxiety very helpful in treating insomnia and other sleep disorders.
I am passionate about providing therapy to clients with insomnia and other sleep disorders. I would love to help you get back to sleeping well again!
